How do you use your thinning shears properly?
First and foremost, if your hair is thin and fine, you don’t need thinning shears. It’s not good for such hair! Thinning shears are good and best meant for very thick and curly hair. When used properly, thinning shears could add texture to your hair and blend your hair layers.
To use thinning shears properly,
Never use thinning shears on wet hair.
You must bear this in mind always. Thinning shears are not to be used on wet hairs. So if you’re just coming from your bathroom or swimming pool, you shouldn’t use thinning shears on your hair – even if you need to style it for a party immediately. Get the hair dried first!
Brush or comb your hair first
You need to straighten your hair if it’s curled. Brush or comb your hair very well. If some sections are tangled, remove the tangles. This would help you know which sections of your hair you’re thinning out. Do not use thinning shears on curled or tangled hair. If you do, you’d remove bulk of hair – more than you needed to.
Use thinning shears in sections
Proper use of thinning shears requires you to thin out your hair in sections. You could start with thinning out very small units of your hair. Then watch and see if you need to thin out more hair. If there’s need, increase the amount of hair you’d thin out gradually. The gradual increment would help you not to remove bulk of hair or more hair than you intended. Do not make this a routine, you could do this quarterly or twice in a year.
How to thin your hair
You should place small strands of your hair in between the blades of the thinning shears. Let the blades of your hair thinning shears not be close to your hair root or on the scalp. The blades should be at least 3 inches away from your scalp. The thinning shears should be placed obliquely at the section of hair you’re thinning out. Then gently move the blades smoothly down your hair shaft to the tip. Use your comb to remove the cut hairs from the section you’ve thinned. You might have many cuts on the same section of your hair. It depends on the length and thickness of your hair.
Thinning shears are good for your hair when you use them properly. The problem with thinning shears arises when you use them too much.
